Tips for getting beautiful & long hair
Tips for getting beautiful & long hairSince a year or two I have been trying to make my hair healthier so hopefully it can grow a little longer. For some reason my hair kept the same length: a few centimeters along my shoulders. Of course it did grow, but every 6-8 weeks I saw dead spots and my hair became dryer so I had to remove 2 centimeters again. When I went to the hairdresser I was usually persuaded to immediately remove about 4-5 centimeters and have layers cut so that it "fell better" and "looked healthier", leaving my hair after still the same length for a year.
Now, about 2 years later my hair does grow and it falls about 15 centimeters below my shoulders. Still about 10 centimeters to go and I have reached the length that I have wanted to achieve for so long! Below are my tips to make your hair healthier and therefore grow faster for longer:
- Eat healthy. I know, I often repeat myself. But I am convinced that my healthy eating style (ahum, a few cupcakes and hamburgers every now and then) has helped my hair enormously. Eat mainly healthy proteins, since your hair consists mainly of proteins. Think of different nuts, soy products and beans: especially the vegetable proteins that your body also loves.
- Pay attention to the ingredients in your hair products. Leave shampoo with the main ingredient (usually indicated after water) SLS or SLES and go for a milder variant. Not only will your hair be milder because of this, but your scalp will also feel better. SLS is an aggressive cleaner that does not belong in shampoo. You don't have to go completely natural (of course you can), but an SLS-free shampoo is a great start. I am currently using the "Sea Kelp" shampoo from Jason, I have previously written a review about the shampoo from this brand.
- If you no longer use SLS, you will notice that your hair is less likely to become fat. Therefore, wash your hair less often, try washing it every 2/3 days if you used to wash it every day. I wash my hair every 4-5 days and with good care my hair looks beautiful on day 5! Of course, it also helps enormously that, in addition to washing your hair less often, you also need to dry and style it less often.
- Only use silicone if you heat your hair. Many cheap conditioners and masks are full of silicone to put a layer around your hair so that it looks shiny and feels soft. When you wash your hair again, this layer is gone, so it doesn't do anything for your hair. Therefore, only use silicone if you style your hair with a straightener after every wash, for example, that layer will come in handy to protect your hair. Do you mainly let your hair dry in the air? Then choose a conditioner without silicone so that the nourishing ingredients can do their job.
- Change hair dye (if you dye your hair). There are now milder hair dye products available without ammonia that are much better for your hair. Take a look at the Naturtint brand at De Tuinen for example. This contains many natural ingredients in addition to the paint itself, so that your hair less affected. These products work just as well and, as an added benefit, they are not tested on animals and also vegan. Henna is of course also an option for girls who want to go 100% natural.
- Use a natural hair oil before going to sleep. This can be a special oil to care for your hair, but also a natural oil such as argan oil. I use this the day before I go to bed to feed the lengths of my hair and it really makes a difference! It may feel a bit greasy in the evening (note: use very little), but in the morning you will wake up with soft, lint-free hair.
- Only cut the dots and do not have layers cut into your hair every time at the hairdresser's. That is because your hair is always slightly thinned by which it looks less long. For example, only have layers cut twice a year (and clearly indicate when you want your hair to grow long that you do not want short layers) and the other times just the dots. By the way, you can easily do this yourself, I do too, take a look at YouTube for tutorials.
- Massage your scalp (or even better: get your scalp massaged). This stimulates blood circulation and removes dry skin cells on your scalp, allowing your hair to grow faster. You can also make a special treatment yourself and massage it on your scalp, delicious!
